Edgar Rice Burroughs on Kickstarter

Michael Tierney's Edgar Rice Burroughs 100 Year Art Chronology has launched on Kickstarter. This massive, four volume, undertaking explores the massive publishing history of Edgar Rice Burroughs in the pulps, novels and comics.

An illustrated history it includes mountains of pictures that have not been seen for decades, some close to a century.

Edgar Rice Burroughs historian Robert Zeuschner saw ERB, Inc's proof copies and reported online:

"Michael has produced something that is quite wonderful, and gives us all access to those old pulp covers and the book covers which many readers and collectors have never seen. This is certainly going to be a project that many of us will want to add to our bookshelves."

Check it all out on the Kickstarter Page!

Edgar Rice Burroughs’ 100 Year Art Chronology (Press Release)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Chenault & Gray Publishing teams up with Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc.

Little Rock, AR – April 18, 2017 – Michael Tierney’s Edgar Rice Burroughs’ 100 Year Art Chronology is a multi-volume collection that captures the vast illustrative history of Edgar Rice Burroughs. Chenault & Gray Publishing and ERB Inc. are working together to bring this project to life.

In close to 1200 pages of content, the series explores the art used in the manifold publications of the vast Burroughs body of work for the past century and more, including the novels, comics and pulps! Mr. Tierney has worked hard to collect the art, from multiple sources, that decorated Mr. Burroughs’s work for the past century. From the Boris Vallejo and Neal Adams covers of the Tarzan novels published by Ballantine Books in the 1970s, to the P.J. Monahan covers for the early pulps back in 1913.

Michael Tierney has been a student of the Burroughs material for years. “The Edgar Rice Burroughs 100 Year Art Chronology is not just a nuts and bolts reference book with dates and data -- there is also a narrative, actually several of them. The career and works of ERB and the artists who illustrated him are examined, as well as the histories of the printing, pulp, book, comic, and retailing industries that put them into the hands of readers.”

When discussing the project, Stephen Chenault, of Chenault & Gray, remarked, “Burroughs has been a part of my life since I picked up Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar back in the mid-70s. Burroughs opened up a world of imagination for me…more than a world, a universe. This project is a no brainer. His many stories, from Tarzan’s jungles to the Earth’s core, are a part of the fabric of our culture, making this series both a piece of history as well as a part of popular culture.”

For more information on how you can help bring this project to life, or on the project itself, please sign up for our mailing list here: http://bit.ly/cngerb You’ll receive notifications of the project’s progress as well as unique opportunities to get your copy long before it arrives in book stores!

Chenault and Gray Publishing, the parent company of Troll Lord Games, the proud publisher of a vast array of role playing games, is perhaps best known for their work with Gary Gygax, co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons. They have been in business since 1999.

What Game Do You Play?

What Game Do You Play?
There are a plethora of FRPGs on the market today. You’ve probably played several of them, if not a veritable host of them. You’ve hacked your way through the simple, and you’ve trudged your way through the complex. They all offer a little something, it's why you keep playing.

As you know, all FRPGs are driven by some mechanic. Some are highly intricate, others very simple. You use them to establish the game you want to play. From fast paced to high tactical combat rules to opposed checks on interactions with NPCs. It’s all part of the gaming landscape you’ve helped create.

I’m the same as you. I’ve tried a host of games and a host of rule sets. My game of choice was always AD&D…I played it even after we released Castles & Crusades. I only stopped my AD&D game when the designers (both regular players at my table) revolted and said no more AD&D until I at least tried C&C once. I reluctantly agreed.

I’ve never gone back.

Castles & Crusades Stays True

So as many of you know, and some may not, Castles & Crusades is a rules-lite fantasy RPG that hasn't changed in over a decade. It is on its 7th printing (on Kickstarter now, check it out here!) and the rules are all the same (only the barbarian changed in all these years and printings).

Here's a picture that proves that's true. Here you'll see Davis leaning on the 2nd printing. The Fouth printing is behind the screens with me. Chris is in the back with the 5th printing by his dice box and Mac's printing is on a PDF on the phone in front of him. I'm not sure what Todd is using, but my guess is the first printing as he doesn't like change very much. (Kim Hartsfield is msissing form the pciture but he seems to have the 4th printing in front of him).

All very cool and true to form.

Battle!

The battle presses upon you. There is little for it but cold steel and hot blood.
