More Early American Archeology News

Some years ago a deep, water filled cave was discovered in Mexico. Probably a remnant of the last glacial retreat over 10,000 years ago, the cave's smooth sides, depth and water made it almost impossible to escape once one fell in. We know this because at the bottom of it archeologists discovered a mountain of bones (I say almost impossible, because some may have escaped and we just don't know it...remember only a sith deals in absolutes!)

But the skull of a young lady, possibly 15 years old, was retrieved from the bone pile. Radio carbon dating places her on the earth about 12-13000 years ago. Studies of her DNA mark her as very connected to the modern day Native Americans, which means that they have continually tramped around this continent for about 13 centuries.

That's a long time.

Enjoy the read over at LiveScience.

My own trouble with this whole thing is that they named the lass Naia, after the Greek naiads. Be as how she's clearly a Native American, couldn't they have stuck with something a little more closely related to her culture? Something like Tlalcihuatl, the Aztec goddess of the earth? A simple search reveals a half dozen simple, similar names.
