You may have missed it . . . this past weekend, yesterday Felix Baumgartner made a jump from 24 miles up, the edge of the Darkling Skies. Felix went up in a small capsule carried by a helium balloon, once he hit altitude, he stepped out and dropped of the platform. He cut through the air like a hot knife through butter until he broke the speed of sound, once there, he began to spin violently, almost losing consciousness. He managed to control his spin however, stabilize and continue his maddening plunge.
He landed safely about 4 minutes later. He managed speeds of over 800 miles per hour. World record plunge.
